How to stop biting my nails?

I really need to know how to easily stop biting my nails because they look really bad. I have tried it before but cant seem to manage it. If possible tell me how you stopped biting your nails. (If you ever have had that problem)

Thanks. How to stop biting my nails?
Ahh, nailbiting. One thing that millions and millions of people do, very bad habit! Here are some ways to stop biting your nails:

Number 1: Try to make a conscious effort to stop biting your nails. Some people are not aware that they are doing it and the other half of the people know exactly what they are doing and if you want to stop you have to purposely not bite your nails.

Number 2 : Ask other people to tell you when you are doing it so that you can stop. If you have someone who will call you on biting your nails then you will be more inclined to stop, trust me.

Number 3: Keep your nails trimmed. Most people before they begin to bite their nails will find an edge or place to start. By keeping your nails trimmed there are no openings to use. Biting the nails is harder that way.

Number 4: Use over the counter products such as Control-IT on your nails in order for them to grow better you have to stop biting them. Control-IT is VERY DISGUSTING nail biting cream which you paint on your nails. It tastes sooooo bitter you wont dare to bite them. A new product on the market which doesn't taste any better, but is definitely worth trying is Jessica 'Nibble No More,' a no-nail-biting polish with bitter cactus extract as its secret ingredient .

http://www.jessicacosmetics.com... You can get the this new product for $5 here.

Number 5: Try sucking on a lollipop or candy and keep the fingers out of your mouth.

Number 6: Keep your nails painted, a good motovation to stop biting your nails is getting a really pricey manicure, I mean who wants to ruin a new maicure? Ahaha not meeee.(=

Number 7: Take a rubberband...put it on your wrist. Everytime you start to bite your nails, snap the rubberband! (=

I hope I can help you a little, If you have any questions feel free to email me via my profile on here

buy NailBiter by Sally Hansen - tastes gross and works!
Have you tried using a lot of Germ-x or some other hand sanitizer that tastes really bad? That might help you keep them out of your mouth. If that doesn't work, there is something you can find in pet stores called Bitter Apple that is for helping dogs and cats to keep from chewing things that have been treated with it. It tastes nasty, but isn't harmful.
scratch the inside of your butt with them
I also bit my nails...to stop when i found myself wanting to bite my nails i it the inside of my cheak..but now i have this habbit of bitting my cheak!....still bite my nails but not as offten!
there are several things on the market that can aid in the defense of biting your nails and oh my god they taste so gross you wouldn't dare to put your fingers in your mouth but once,i try ed it once cause a friend of mine has almost no nails left on her fingers yuk so i went and got some no bit nail polish for her and i made her use it well in turn she made me taste it yuk i tell you just yuk,you could also try having your nails done that works to.....good luck
yes, bitter apple spray works good (like they said you can find it at any local pet store)

or

fake nails work good too %26amp; they also look pretty.. (:
Hmm... I was a pretty bad nail biter....I did it from like age 3 to 13. I tried everything.

You can try:

Bitter nail polish: If you've got sensitive tastebuds, this is good. It tastes like crap. It never really worked on me because I needed to bite my nails so bad that I could ignore the taste.

Chew on other things: Start carrying gum at all times. Chew on it whenever you're about to bite your nails. When I don't have gum, I chew on my pens. It's bad, but it got my mouth away from my fingers.

Get tips: If you're female, get fake nails. They are hard, thick, and plastic, therefore making them hard to break off with your teeth.

Set a date: Think of some occasion that you want to have your nails look nice for. I used my band prom. Everytime you go to bite your nails, you will remember that you want them to look nice for that day.

Keep them clipped: Keep them short to avoid the temptation. When you get used to not biting them, you can grow them out. Also, keep nail clippers with you. That way if they break or snag on things, you won't bite them off.

You can combine those or just do one, but at least one of them should work for you.

Good luck!

I had this same problem last month. My solution? Make a deal with a cute friend of yours.... For every day you DONT bite your nails, you get a hug, or some type of reward. Fixed me really quick! Good luck :)
keep your hands occupied ;)

(no not in a dirty way thank you very much)
If you dont like spicy food put tobasco sauce in you top coat.

Spicy reminder to stop
put hot chili habanero on your nail and when you biting feel burn your lips
I bought the fake french nails and glued them on (the short ones)...they look like a professional manicure and I don't bite them. Underneath, my real nails grew long and healthy.
go to a drug store... they have this nail polish that tastes really really bad, so as long as you wear the polish you wont bite them. also, you could try rewarding yourself for every day you go without biting them. hope this helps (:
Biting nails (onychophagia) is a common habbit, but not good for your nails!

Here are some statistics:

-About 50% of children between the ages of 10 and 18 bite their nails at one time or another.

-Nail-biting occurs most often as teens are going through puberty changes.

-About 23% of young adults, ages 18 to 22 years, bite their nails.

-Only a small number of other adults bite their nails.

-Most people stop biting their nails on their own by age 30.

-About 10% of men over the age of 30 bite their nails.

-Boys bite

Several treatment measures may help you stop biting your nails. Some focus on behavior changes and some focus on physical barriers to nail-biting.

Keep your nails trimmed and filed. Taking care of your nails can help reduce your nail-biting habit and encourage you to keep your nails attractive.

Have a manicure regularly or use nail polish. Men can use a clear polish. Wearing artificial nails may stop you from biting your nails and protect them as they grow out.

Try stress-management techniques if you bite your nails because you are anxious or stressed.

Paint a bitter-tasting polish, such as CONTROL-IT or Thum, on your nails. The awful taste will remind you to stop every time you start to bite your nails.

Try substituting another activity, such as drawing or writing or squeezing a stress ball or silly putty, when you find yourself biting your nails. If you keep a record of nail-biting, you will become more aware of the times when you bite your nails and be able to stop the habit.

Wear gloves, adhesive bandages, or colored stickers whenever possible to remind you not to bite your nails.

Snap a rubber band on the inside of your wrist when you start to bite your nails so you have a negative physical response to nail-biting.

Children may bite their nails more often when they are having problems at school or with friends. Talk with your child or his or her teacher about any new stress at school. Children are more likely to stop biting their nails when they understand what may trigger it. It is also important for your child to help choose a treatment method so he or she can use the treatment successfully.

What problems can develop from nail-biting?

Nail-biting can cause your fingertips to be red and sore and your cuticles to bleed. Nail-biting also increases your risk for infections around your nailbeds and in your mouth. Dental problems and infections of the gums can be caused by nail-biting.

Long-term nail-biting can also interfere with normal nail growth and cause deformed nails.

here are some ways i got over biting my nails:

MAKE 'EM LOOK GOOD/NOT BOTHER

-nail polish will make your nails look more pretty, and i usually would chew on my nails if they looked bad, in an effort to fix them, so polish makes the damage on your nails not look as bad.

STRESS?!!

- Also, i was always able to grow my nails longer, on vacations i noticed, even if you dont believe it, it may have to do with stress, so try to lower yours.

GROSS!

- kinda gross fact :did you know, under your nails, there are little tiny bugs? ew

ENTERTAIN THEM

-whenever i go to movies or am at church (sorry lord) i find i am more eager to pick at my nails, try to bring a stress ball, or something to entertain your hands.

COVER THEM

-try to wear gloves, i find i used to ball up my hands and i was ashamed of them, if you dont have to do a lot of daily writing, or live somewhere cold, this is an easy fix. when i go skiing, i never would bit my nails because it was such a pain to take my gloves off and they would get real cold.

GROSS!

-another gross fact:someday your nails may not grow long again, or will grow more upward. ew

CHEW

- i love bubble gum, and this didnt work for me, because i am a gum swallower ( :-( ) but try to bring something to nibble on, or entertain your mouth with.

WILL YOURSELF (THIS IS HOW i STOPPED)

-try to will yourself out of it, last spring, i just got tired of trying all these things, and i hated the way people looked when they saw my nails, so i just, somehow stopped. (for some reason, this worked the best, just think about how much you want it, and treat yourself to a manicure, or even a new pair of shoes or chocolate cake when they are all grown out)

FIX THE FLIMSYNESS

- i also realized that whenever my nails grew slightly long, i would bite them because i hated the bendy thin feeling of them, get sally hansen strengthener (in the gold bottle) its clear, and grows and strengthens your nails, so they wont bother you so much,

these may not help you, i remember how annoying it was to ask people how i could stop, and get the same answers over and over, but i hope this helps
you need to clean your nails with polish remover and put a clear coat of polish on it. if you bite your nails then you will taste nasty polish in your mouth.(and wash your hands daily so germs wont get in)
I am not exactly sure what it is called but there is a polish you can put on your nails and it has a taste to it that is really bitter and gross so it helps you not bite your nails.
I have had that problem in the past...but i realised how ugly it made my nails look. But you can TRY clear nail polish. Every time you bite them you'll have a funny taste. COOL HUH ??
apply nail polish to ur nails...then u cant bite ur nails for sure....

lol........
i think you should find something else that keeps you busy . then you won't be thinking about biting your nails .. try putting something that tastes bad to you on your fingers .. then you won't want to bite them.
put on a hand sanitizer (sp?) they clean your hands but taste like crap or paint your nails really really nicely that you feel guilty for ruining them. good luck.
put nail polish that you can see and then when you try to bite them you will remember to not eat nail polish
