My cat has two nails coming out of one toe?

On both my kittys front paws their are two toe nails coming out of one joint, this is only the ';thumbs'; is this normal? My cat has two nails coming out of one toe?
No, it wouldn't be normal to have two claws from one joint.

But are you sure it's two separate nails? The outside layers of cat claws slough off. It's possible that a large section of old, dead claw has split from the living, growing section. It would give the appearance of two complete, curved, pointed claws.

Provide your cat with a scratching post or other material to help it slough off those shedding layers. My cat has two nails coming out of one toe?
OK, look at your cat. Count the claws. Usually 5 in each front, 4 in back.

If you have 5 in back and usually 6 or 7 in front its a genetic defect. Used to be this occured only in one type of cat but that's not true. Nor is it found only in one country. Also not true.

Ernest Hemingway's had tons of them at his house. Cats are fine. You will have to be careful and trim their claws. Especially a claw that seems to hang off the side of what would be the thumb. This can get ingrown and really hurt the cat.

Paws look like a baseball mitt.

They are supposedly lucky cats. Mine is.

Mine is calico but others can have this.

Our vet said to watch the claws, trim as needed, but no surgery was needed or indicated.

If you google multi toed cats I found there were problems at Ernest's old house in Florida but it was an old story and don't know resolution. You'd think the feds had better things to do, but that's another story.

Anyway, from looking at the web, sailors used to treasure these cats as they were thought to be especially lucky cats to have on board ship.

The source I attached is a start, you can google the term from there. Cute kitten on the first page also.
My cat has it on her left thumb. She is (was) a stray and when I took her to the vets for a check up, I mentioned that she had a double claw on one paw. He didn't seem at all worried by it. I think it makes a great thing for identification purposes. Unless your cat is bothered by the double claws, I wouldn't worry too much.
I'm sure it's normal. If you don't like it, take her to the vet and get it removed. But if it's not bothering her, leave them be. It's like some people have fused fingers and toes, or webbed feet.
i dont think so...but you never know.

it might not be bad at all.

but yeah you should take it to the vet and get that checked out

especially if it looks like its irritating the cat
so i just checked my cat, and he totally

doesn't have that. :p i'd say its unusual.

call your vet and ask what to do. :] that

is what i would do.
Hi

This is ok this can happen to a lot of cats, don't worry about it,it's like some horrmone in the cats DNA that makes it do this,it will do this for most of it's life.

GOOD LCUK
Just go to the vet. I'm sure its just a minor deformation. Nothing to really worry about. my friends cat has 7 toes on one foot(:
Maybe her nail got chipped in half or something. Check with the vet or something. It may be very minor as a result :)
take him to the vet
i personally think you should go straigh to the vet or get it declawed
